Visayan 50' Catamaran

Designer: Mike Allen/Peter Hansen

Long distance catamaran cruiser Peter Hansen wanted a big rugged cat to replace his aging Wharram design. The boat was finished on the beach with a minimal budget and in less than a year from a pair of Boatshop supplied Constant Camber hulls and a basic design.  After years of cruising Peter knew just what was needed to get afloat, and probably even more  importantly, what wasn't needed.  Two years later Lambada came back to us for repairs after a terrible pounding on an open ocean coral reef.  After being winched back through the surf line by Peter's extraordinary seamanship and a pair of second hand oversized coffee grinders he had installed, we were pleased to see that inspite of the major hull damage incurred during the pounding, the boat was undamaged structurally.  (CC project #9)
